Aura Guignard put together this beginner pattern for cats and small dogs. It works up in the round. And she included a full YouTube tutorial, which makes a real difference if you’re newer to knitting in the round.
Six sizes. Beginner-friendly. Video included. It’s a solid starting point.
How it’s built
The sweater is worked in the round – collar first, then body, then sleeves. It uses 1×1 rib and stocking stitch sections. Nothing complicated. The video tutorial on YouTube walks through every step, so if you get stuck on the written pattern, the video’s there as a backup.
It fits cats and small dogs, which is actually a harder problem than it sounds. Cats and small dogs have different proportions, and most patterns pick one or the other. This one handles both reasonably well.
What you need
- Skill level: Beginner
- Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL
- Yarn: DROPS Nepal or similar Aran/Worsted weight (gauge: 17 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm)
The gauge matters here more than usual because you’re fitting a small animal. Worth swatching.
