Most dog sweaters are built for dogs that can bend their legs easily. Luna’s Jacket isn’t. Ciara at The Fairy Thorn designed this one specifically for dogs with stiff joints – the kind of sweater that goes on without wrestling your dog’s legs into sleeves.
It’s a beginner project. You’ll need chunky weight yarn and a basic understanding of knit and purl stitches. That’s about it.
How it’s built
This is a Ciara design, and it’s clever. The sweater is knitted in rows – back and forth – worked sideways. You start with the flap under the tummy, increase for the back, then decrease for the second side. It fastens under the belly, which means no leg-threading at all.
That’s the whole point. Dogs with arthritis or stiff joints can’t always lift their legs on command. This jacket wraps around them instead.
