I emailed Esther a few years ago and asked if I could use her popular pattern on this site. She politely declined my request, but it's still a great resource and I want to point it out to everyone. The story goes, she was frustrated at the lack of a suitable pattern for her pooch so she came up with her own. Along the way, she decided to make it customizable for anyone to use based on dog neck and chest measurements. Esther suggests you make 2 sweaters, so one will have ample time to dry after Fido frolics in the snow. Have a look for yourself, and let us know what you think!

Where is the pattern? What is the sense of putting in a title that says Free Chihuahua Sweater, and then not adding it to the site??????? I don’t get it………

and under that is Patterns. I found it! It was hard. I wonder if site knows that.

I don’t think the pattern was hard to find, it’s right there in the text of the post ‘popular pattern’… However, with the text color of the link so close to that of the rest of the text, it is difficult to spot it at first. I suggest changing the text color to something more bold, or perhaps having the link underlined to make it easier to find.
I’m hoping I can apply the front sleeve pattern to the hind legs, to keep those warm too. The dog I’m making it for is about 13 years old, and very small. So until her fur grows in long enough, I want her to be warm (Looks like Winter in Delaware is gonna be a rough one, wet and cold)

I found Esther’s pattern and this website through a search engine when I asked for dog sweater patterns. I really compliment Esther on the thoughtful comments she adds about measuring, fit, and keeping a second dry coat. I also compliment her on copyrighting her pattern and vigorously defending her copyright. If knitting and other hand crafts are ever to be elevated beyond “busy work” we all need to copyright patterns and respect the people who hold copyrights to patterns,
I do have a question: What are the opinions about longer “sleeves”? In my neighborhood, which is very very dog friendly, no one has had success getting a dog to keep its legs in any sweater with more than a ribbed leg opening. Several dogs I know refuse to move if their legs are in “sleeves.” Are there any tricks to getting this to work? Comments welcome.
